Snippy

September 7, 2011

Oh how I wish that title meant I had worked on our capes tonight.

But no, it was what my mood degenerated to through the day.
I don’t remember exactly when I realized I was, “in a mood.” I think sometime before lunch.
It started by getting a late start from home, with an 8 AM meeting looming.
But we made it on time, so that was OK.

I think it was the, “way too much to get done, bouncing around without finishing anything, and others that I just don’t understand.”

In other words, nothing major, nothing specific, just a bit of everything.

Maybe I’ll try to go to bed now, get up early, and start FRESH tomorrow. (Instead of trying to get just a bit more done tonight.)

Back to work

September 6, 2011

Today we all went back to work.

Since school in Seattle does not start until tomorrow (Wednesday), Carl still had kids.
It was a beautiful day, summer has finally arrived here, so they headed for water.

Urban swimming hole

Lake Union and associated park were the final locations.

Big Boat - just parked

This may be called work, but I just don’t know.

Splash Pad

Jay had a day of meetings. Basically, we put Monday and Tuesday together.
The Monday meeting lasted until at least 6:30.

On the way to work I saw a black corvette neatly nosed under a small sedan (Honda, Mazda).
It sort of showed up, in my vision, just as my car passed the two closely joined cars.
The joining must have happened just moments before the I made the turn onto the road that leads to a high school entrance. (Actually 3 high school entrances, but this was the first one.) The back-up to the entrance was almost back to the intersection, but not quite.
The joining did not show itself until the cars in front of the first conjoined vehicle moved forward.
The sirens started wailing shortly after arriving at work.
I am sure the front car was a student. The Corvette? Did not see the driver.
Hopefully everyone was OK.

Tomorrow the week will be more normal.
At least for Jay.
Carl has a day of nothing before the after school program begins.
For him, the only constant will be change – at least for a while.

Two-a-days

September 4, 2011

We both did two bits of exercise today.
One separate, and one together.

Carl got up and at em first.
Out the door to meet up with his baseball buddies for Church of Baseball.

The 5 Amigos. Actually 1 Amigo, Kevin, Chuck, Rob & Carl

He was out before 8 AM and back a bit after noon.

The 3 Wannabees

Jay got up second.
But went to the basement and road the bike for 1/2 hour before making coffee.
(Fit a shower in there too.)
Then took the coffee and paper out to sit with Blackie.

Blackie is the dog next door, and her owner was going to be away for most of the day.
The weather was spectacular, so no need to be indoors, but want to have some company.

After a bit, including a healthy back scratch, I retired to the table to work on the crossword puzzle. (Blackie was really being no help at all.) Luckily Rey called and was able to help me finish the bits I was stuck on.

It was finally dinner time, so we went for our second exercise of the day.
A walk (of course).
To, around, and back from Green Lake. (4.5-5 miles)

We contemplated dinner abroad, but decided to eat at home.
The planned pork chops in apple did not materialize due to the lateness of our arrival back.
Instead we are dining on spaghetti and meatballs (not homemade – or it would take longer than the pork chops) No garlic bread in the house. We could go for garlic nan, but probably have enough here to satisfy for the evening.

And – tomorrow is another day with no alarm – YEAH.

9 miles

September 3, 2011

Our primary goal today was to not wake up to an alarm.
Check

The next goal was to take a walk and run some errands.
We started out heading south to the post office for some stamps.
This was OK, but all of our other errands were north.
In the end this added about 2 miles to the total.

There were some other incidentals along the way, but our real goal was to get material to make two capes. We are working food service for the Breast Cancer 3-day walk. This entails serving breakfast and dinner to the 2000-3000 walkers and crew during their 3-day experience. They like to have a theme – and food service is Super Heros. So we are making capes.

Carl is going to be Captain Woo-Hoo.
He has always claimed he can’t woo-h0o with the rest of the folks cheering on the walkers.
So we are trying to make one of those “record yourself” greeting cards say Woo-Hoo, and somehow affix it to his cape.

I don’t know who I am to be. Just Super I guess.

As I have probably noted in the past, I don’t really sew (that would be in my older sister’s and several cousins’ genes). I mend. Should make for an interesting project.

While we were up north we decided to check out the Best Buy. Our 10-15 year old DVD player has been pixelating everything. Our video genius friend said the player is on its way out (not just needing a cleaning). So – we bit the bullet, and bought a new one. (Man are they less expensive than the last time we got one.) Of course this meant we had to carry it home, but it was not too heavy.

When we got home we figured we had maybe gone 7 miles.
The last bit was quite hot, and not much shade.
Summer has finally arrived in Seattle – in September.

When I finally got out the map and measured – 9 miles.
We feel a bit better about being tuckered out when we arrived home.

A few things we saw along the way.
In the QFC (food store where we got a sandwich for lunch), “Frozen Bags.” I don’t know why the lable didn’t mention what was inside the frozen bags.
A bomb shelter entrance.
I stumbled upon an article about this bomb shelter a few days ago. It is not too far from our house. Holds 200. This is a more interesting write-up (from my reading), and it has a link to some pictures of the interior.

To all those at the cabin.
I am missing you, and missing being there.

Once again

September 1, 2011

My days are blending together.

Get up. Carpool in (most of the time)

Work, lunch, work (never get enough done)

Get a ride into town.

Batting practice. Even sitting up high you have to pay attention when the Angels are hitting.

Game-time – move down to the Front Row.

Watch them win, er lose, er win, er lose, er win, er lose – today was a loss.

Drive, get a ride or bus home.

Look at the mess in the house. (Notice how nothing is being done about the mess in the house.)

Sleep.

Get up. Carpool ….. all over again.

A bit boring. But today on the way home, as we were dropping of a fellow baseball addict, we noticed this.

8789 - some special numbers for us

No, they don’t have anything to do with baseball.
But the 61 is the number of home runs that Maris hit in 1961 to pass Babe Ruth’s prior record.

In addition to a baseball addiction, my husband is a bit of a numbers freak.
Of course that feeds his baseball statistics thing.
It is a vicious circle.
