She who hesitates

I didn’t really hesitate, I was just still working.
But when another worker from upstairs came downstairs and announced that all others upstairs were gone ….

Well that meant that my ride home was gone too ….

I did find him by phone, but he was well on his way home by then.
So off to the bus. (Did get a ride to a Park & Ride to avoid one leg.)

I am sure my looking for a morning ride earlier in the afternoon played into the loss of the ride home.
I just confused them.
Two potential rides, made a choice for the morning.
Maybe the afternoon ride was put out that I didn’t choose him.

No harm, no foul, and I got some work done on the ride home.

I only hope tomorrows ride in goes as planned.
It is harder to make up time going in to work in the morning.

fyi – in honor of Ashlan’s birthday on Saturday, mom and I are going to the U-M commencement to hear Obama speak.

with 80,000 of our closest friends. and I imagine very long security lines.

luckily the parental units are alumni and I have a friend in the alumni office who I requested tix from months ago. so even though the tix were gone before they were available to the general public, we’re still going!!

I saw that you were going, but I didn’t know the venue. Hoping for good weather. Did Mom & Dad arm-wrestle for the 2nd spot? Or is Dad not into the whole “event” thing.

How exciting. I actually could have gone to see Obama speak – before he was big in the running. This was when he was on the radar, but it was “too early” for a black man, not enough experience, etc. He was speaking at the kids high school (that was the venue – it was whomever came got in) I was picking up Ashlan from lacrosse practice and all these people were streaming in (on foot) from the neighborhood. Rey had to tell me who Obama was. He has always been more aware in the early running. I wish now I had parked and gone in, but I was just doing my “lacrosse mom” thing at the time.

I remember going to see President Lyndon Johnson give the commencement speech at UMich when Jan graduated in 1965. I don’t think security was as tight as it will be this time. I was wearing a sun dress and sunburned my back. I remember that better than the speech.

I remember Jan’s graduation, but I did not remember the commencement or LBJ at all. I am guessing I did not get to attend. 9 vs 11 years old (or so)

I waved at Obama’s helicopter(s) today. From Mouse’s back yard, in washerwoman mode.
