Touched by Art

Have you ever looked at something and just known that it was perfect for you.

I went to a “Salon” tonight, a small gallery with artwork by 6 of 7 different artists, held in a community center/renovated school. One of the artists is a friend of ours.

I wandered along, looking at the different offerings, and then one hit me.
It was a print by our friend, and it was perfect for me.
Titled “Contemplation,” it was a linoleum cut print (I think) of a person’s shadow stretching out over water, with gentle ripples. In blues.

It touched me. I don’t know if it was the artwork, the connection to water I always feel, the similarity to standing at the lake’s edge (ocean’s edge in Mexico for her), the fact that I had been up since 3, the fact that the artist lost her husband way to young last year, but it touched me. I told her that if it was still available at the end to get in touch with me. Somethings are just meant to be.

now I have to try to find the photo of Ashlan at the cabin, in the water, dipping her finger in. maybe she was 3 at the time. Carl’s note on the back was ‘Ashlan making circles’

I have no idea where to start to find that picture.

I have two pictures of Rey. The first at age 2 and the second at age 12, standing at the edge of the calm water, with the sun going down so he is in silouette. These pictures are side by side at my office, so I can contemplate them when I need a break.
He promised me a picture at 22, but since he did not get it this winter on his way out (actually was 21 then) I can only hope he passes that way again in September.
