What’s missing – update at bottom

December 21, 2008

I stepped out into our winter-wonderland this morning and took a few pictures.

You can see our front walk – which was shovelled, twice, yesterday. As of about 3:30 PM the snow started to fall again.

Ashlan got some additional snow driving experience yesterday as she was out in downtown Seattle with a friend, and was to drive her friend home to Magnolia before returning to our area. Now downtown Seattle and Magnolia are two areas with significant hills, so we were a little anxious (she had the newest car).  All of the cars have chains (in the trunks). They really had not been required earlier in the day. As Rey and I were walking around we noted that while I had requested Rey practice putting chains on before his cross county drives, I had never asked Ashlan to even look at them. Her friend really is a friend though, as she spotted a bus trailing them that would take her close to home and got out to change transportation modes before they hit the higher elevations. Ashlan then only had to cross one good sized hill before arriving safely home. [Several years ago Carl had to abandon a car on the good sized hill as it just would not make it across. But he did manage to get it into a real, legal, not too likely to be hit parking spot.]

I estimate about 4-inches. Our part of Seattle did not get the high wind gusts that were evident elsewhere. One news broadcast showed clean streets where the wind was scouring the snow (didn’t ever see the drifts that must have been somewhere).

I know this isn’t really all that spectacular, but it is a rare enough experience in our fair city to acknowledge.
And what’s missing? The NEWSPAPER, the Sunday edition to boot. I like my Sunday mornings with the paper. Oh well, make some beds, wrap some presents and maybe we’ll get a Sunday afternoon with the paper. If it doesn’t arrive we will just have to hoof it to the store and hope they delivered there. I am assuming it is our delivery person that has been challenged by the weather, not the corporate delivery system.

UPDATE – Carl shovelled, still no newspaper. Rey got invited to go to the Seahawks – Jets game, assuming he could get there. So he took off on the bus, and last we heard our friend was parking and Rey was at the stadium. And Carl just would not be kept from church (of baseball).
